If you can't tell by the title, this week we are going to focus on Google Ads and Google Keywords. They are important to make sure we can get our Campaign up and running.
Let me warn you before we start, YOU MUST SET A DAILY BUDGET ON YOUR CAMPAIGN!! If you do not set a limit, you could owe hundreds or thousands of dollars to Google later.
This week I learned how to start my campaign. You need to open your Google Ads account (if you do not have one, create a STANDARD account.) After logging in, the left hand side will show a "Campaign" text. Click it and start a new campaign. Honestly it is very self-explanatory and you can walk through it yourself. My only recommendations are:
Pick the "search" option for now. Not the display or any of the others (you can change this later)
Set a daily budget. This is completely up to you, but if you are just starting, I recommend about $3 a day. This will add up to quite a bit, so be willing to spend the money.
Pick GOOD keywords and AVOID bad keywords.
What is a GOOD and BAD keyword?
Think like a consumer. If you were looking for soccer cleats online, what would you search? Now try to narrow that down a little bit, but not too much. Good keywords are never too specific or too broad. Make sure your keywords are unique and would bring the right target market to your company. Another characteristic of a good keyword, is the competition level. The lower the level, the better your chances of having your ad be seen by someone.
On the other hand, bad keywords are either too specific or too broad. They are words that don't correlate to your business or the services you offer. If they are words that only your or your business would understand, then don't use them. The list for both could go on and on, but remember to just think like a consumer.
After you have chosen at least 20 keywords and filled in all the other information for the campaign, DO NOT ACTIVE IT. Either leave out your billing information or keep it as a draft. We will stop here for this week, but we have more we are going to improve about our campaign before we actually launch it. Keep with it, we are getting closer!
