"20 ¶ And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the Lord to war, 21 And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the Lord, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him, 22 And the land be subdued before the Lord: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the Lord, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord."

When I first read these verses, nothing really stood out to me. There were no principles I saw right up front. Perhaps you are the same as me or perhaps you pulled your own principles from these verses. I wanted to share something that I found from these verses.

I want to pull two parts together, "if ye will do this thing...this land shall be your possession before the Lord." What thing is it talking about? In these verses Moses is talking to the children of Gad and the children of Reuben. At the time, there was a war going on around them and they had the choice whether or not they wanted to help their brethren or back down. Moses tells them if they will go armed in the Lord, to war, that the Lord will bless unto them the possession of the lands. This is important because back then, land was a vital part of their inheritance.

These verses are reflecting the principle of ministering and service. When we serve others, not only are they blessed, but we are as well.

"Forget yourself and go to work." - Gordan B. Hinckley

Part of our time in this life should be spent on serving and ministering to our fellow brethren. It is a principle that has been taught since the beginning of time and I strongly believe we will be blessed as we do.
